Is the e-Visa valid throughout Russia?

Moving from one country to another within the European continent has become relatively simple and easy these days. However, before you pack your bags and set off on your trip to any country, you still need to comply with certain administrative requirements. This includes obtaining an e-Visa, or electronic visa. Many countries now offer the possibility of obtaining an e-Visa without too much hassle.

Is the e-Visa valid in Russia?

The e-Visa system is already in use in many European countries, including the member states of the European Union and the countries of the former Soviet Union. It is also in force in some of the world's major countries. While e-Visa has been around for many years in some countries, it is a very recent development in others. This is particularly the case for Russia, which only began implementing e-Visa in August 2017.

At the time, it was only a pilot project dedicated solely to the regions of the Far East Federal District. At the time, only citizens of 18 countries were eligible. Since 1 January 2021, the Russian government has introduced a unified electronic visa allowing you to visit the whole of Russia.

How do I obtain a Russian e-Visa?

To do this, you need to take the right steps to obtain the electronic sesame. You can apply for a Russian e-Visa at the website They must be requested at least 10 days before the planned date of travel and no later than 4 days before your arrival in Russia.

Applicants can then receive their Russian e-Visa within 4 days. Once you have received your e-Visa, you will be able to stay in Russia, particularly in the territories where the e-Visa is valid. You may be asked to provide a range of information, often complex, when completing the formalities online.

Obtaining an e-Visa through a company

You can also obtain a Russian e-Visa by using the services of a visa agency to carry out the procedure. The procedures are simple and can be done from your computer.
